Why Shopify app teams add chat

Merchants need a clear path through app settings without sharing store credentials in a chat.

Shopify app teams already maintain product docs. MivoChat makes those answers available in the site widget and keeps a human route for the question the docs cannot settle.

  • Use the source you maintain

Connect installation, permissions, and troubleshooting pages. Store-specific bugs go to a teammate; MivoChat cannot inspect the merchant's admin or change a store.

  • Keep the team in its channel

Slack threads or Telegram topics carry the conversation and let the visitor stay in the widget.

  • Set up in about five minutes

Add one script tag; Next.js users can add it with next/script. Connect public pages and test a few real questions.

Real questions, routed well

Questions merchants bring to your site

The assistant answers only when your connected pages support it. A person handles the rest.

Features

A small support layer, not a new helpdesk

Your website keeps the widget; your team keeps its existing reply channel.

  • Grounded in your docs

Connect public documentation and marketing pages, including Mintlify, GitBook, Docusaurus, Next.js docs, or another public site.

  • Reply from Slack or Telegram

Every handoff stays in a thread or topic. Team replies appear live in the visitor's widget.

  • Admits when it does not know

Unanswered questions reach a person instead of getting a made-up product claim.

The practical guide

Shopify app support chat: what to set up, and what to keep human

A merchant installing a Shopify app needs to know which permission is requested, where a theme block appears, and how to undo a change. MivoChat can answer from your app’s public help pages, but it cannot inspect the merchant’s store or admin. Store-specific issues go to your team.

Quick answer

Shopify app teams can put a docs-grounded support widget on their site and route merchant questions that depend on store settings to Slack or Telegram.

Merchants need steps they can follow without handing a support bot their store credentials.

Merchant questions depend on the store context

A support answer that works for one theme or app version may be wrong for another. Merchants need clear installation steps, an explanation of requested permissions, instructions for removing a theme block, and a safe uninstall path. When they report a storefront issue, your team may need app version, theme, and reproduction steps before making a recommendation.

Common questions include “Which permissions does the app need?”, “How do I remove the theme block?”, “Will uninstalling cancel my subscription?”, and “Why is the product widget missing on my storefront?” The first three may be covered by your published help content. The last may require inspecting a particular store, which the chat assistant cannot do.

  • Name the exact Shopify admin path used in each setup article.
  • Explain what uninstall does and does not remove.
  • Keep store-specific diagnosis with someone who can inspect the merchant’s configuration.

Answer from app documentation, not a guessed store state

Connect installation, permissions, troubleshooting, uninstall, and billing help pages. Keep the article steps aligned with the current Shopify admin and your current app version. MivoChat uses connected public pages to answer a merchant; it cannot view a store’s theme, billing status, customer data, or access scopes. When a question depends on those details, it should say it does not know and route the conversation.

A handoff can arrive as a Slack thread or a Telegram topic. A teammate can ask for the app version or a safe screenshot, investigate, and reply in the team channel. The merchant sees the reply in the same website widget. The teammate can take over, hand the conversation back to AI after a general question is settled, or close it once the store issue has an owner.

Estimate AI volume against plan limits

Starter costs $29/month and allows 1,000 AI replies across 1 site and 3 seats. Pro costs $99/month for 10,000 replies across 5 sites and 10 seats. Every AI response counts. The default assumption is 3 replies per AI-handled conversation, so Starter can cover around 333 conversations at that average.

Fin’s $0.99 per resolved conversation would be about $329.67 for 333 resolved conversations, before seats. That comparison assumes each MivoChat conversation uses the default three replies; a long merchant troubleshooting thread may consume more replies. MivoChat has no per-resolution charge, and reaching the allowance sends the conversation to a human. Published plan prices are not yet available for paid checkout; teams can try the product for 14 days without a card.

Install on the marketing or help site

Put the widget on your app’s marketing site and help center where merchants look for installation and troubleshooting guidance. A static help center can load the site script from its shared template: <script src="https://mivochat.app/widget.js" data-site="YOUR_SITE_KEY" async></script>. If your help center is built with Next.js, add it in the shared App Router layout or follow the documented package instructions. Do not present a public support widget as if it can read authenticated Shopify admin data.

Before launch, test a permissions question, the theme-block removal instructions, and an issue that requires an individual store inspection. Check each answer against your published help page. Confirm the last question is delivered to Slack or Telegram and that a teammate can reply. Include the current app version and Shopify admin navigation in the source articles so the answer is usable without seeing the customer’s screen.

Protect merchant information and account actions

MivoChat does not open a merchant’s Shopify admin, inspect orders, read customer records, change app settings, remove a theme block, or cancel a charge. The assistant can guide a merchant through documented steps, but it cannot verify the merchant’s current store state or safely perform a change.

For billing disputes, privacy requests, storefront breakage, and permission questions tied to a specific installation, route the exchange to a person. Ask for the minimum information needed to investigate and never request passwords or access tokens in a public chat. Keep uninstall and data handling instructions explicit so the assistant has an approved source to use.

Questions, answered

Frequently asked questions

What happens to a store-specific bug report?

It can be handed to your team as a Slack thread or Telegram topic for investigation.

Can it answer in the merchant’s language?

MivoChat can automatically translate conversations so merchants can ask and receive help in their language.
